چکیده

We have used the Keck 10m telescope to count objects as a function of image size in two high galactic latitude fields covering 1.5 arcmin and reaching 50% completeness depths of K=24 and J=24.5 for stellar sources. Our counts extend ∼1 magnitude deeper in K than those of surveys with other telescopes; complement other Keck surveys in the K band that provide counts at comparable or shallower depths but that have not utilized image structure; and extend by several magnitudes the J band counts from brighter surveys using smaller telescopes that cover larger areas. We find the surface-density of objects at K=23 to be higher than previously found (∼500,000 mag deg), but at K < 22 to be consistent with other surveys. The slope of the K band counts (dlogA/dm = 0.36) is similar to others near this depth as well as to our own J band counts (0.35). Counts in J and K bands are both in excess

ساخت و تحلیل فهرست ستارهای از کهکشان M33

In this study, 1200 images and catalogues of M33 spiral galaxy taken by WFCAM camera at UKIRT telescope in J, H and K bands. Cross correlation methods were employed to identify stars in overlapping regions from among images taken in different dates. Careful astrometric and photometric analysis was made to calibrate stellar positions and magnitudes using their 2MASS near infra red survey. The fi...

A mid-infrared atlas of part of the Galactic plane (75 • < l < 148 • , b = ±6 •) has been constructed using HIRES processed infrared data to provide a mid-infrared data set for the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS). The addition of this data set to the CGPS will enable the study of the emission from the smallest components of interstellar dust at an angular resolution comparable to that of ...

We present K–band luminosity functions for galaxies in a heterogeneous sample of 38 clusters at 0.1 < z < 1. Using infrared–selected galaxy samples which generally reach 2 magnitudes fainter than the characteristic galaxy luminosity L, we fit Schechter functions to background–corrected cluster galaxy counts to determine K as a function of redshift. Because of the magnitude limit of our data, th...

The nearby Seyfert 2 Galaxy NGC 1068 was observed with speckle imaging techniques in the near-infrared H−band (1.6 µm) at the Hale 200-inch Telescope at Palomar Observatory and K−band (2.2 µm) at the 10 m Keck I Telescope at the W. M. Keck Observatory. Images with diffraction limited or near-diffraction limited resolutions of 0. ′′ 05 − 0. ′′ 1 were obtained and used to search for structure in ...
